ITEM OVERVIEW
The usual image of anti-globalization demonstrations in places like Seattle, Quebec City, and Genoa is violent confrontations between police and protesters. But University of Alberta art historian Allan Antliff believes this misses the most interesting aspect of the demonstrations: the role artists play in radical politics. In Art, Anarchy and Activism he presents some of the leading anarchist artists, and argues that modern radical artists are part of a long tradition of using art for political and social change.
Antilff converses with Mecca Normal, Kevin Pyle, Susan Simensky, Norman Nawrocki, Josh MacPhee, Ben Rubin, Matti Hart and others during this hour long program.
